Beaches

Portugal offers a huge selection of beautiful, partly pristine beaches that are all different. The colors of the coast, the sand and the vegetation change from south to north.

Most of the beaches are supervised, often have a small place like a bar or restaurant, and offer the opportunity to surf or to learn to surf depending on the location.

The nearest beaches are Praia da Amoreira, Vale dos Homens and Odeceixe. If you want to experience a bit more tourism, you should take a closer look at the Praia da Rocha in Portimão.

Due to the enormous number of different beaches in the area, there is something for every taste, be it for sports activities such as surfing or snorkeling, relaxing and sunbathing or just a walk in the sunset. You will find your prefered beach.

Attractions

Besides the many distinctive and beautiful beaches, it is also worth taking a look at the other sights in the area.

The coast is changing from south to north, covering all facets, from light sand and clay to rocky shale.

Whether historic castles, ancient walls of the Moorish period, renovated windmills in the old Portuguese style, lighthouses at the outskirts of the coast, the high mountains of Monchique with the highest elevation of the Algarve, whether for large or small, there is much to see and discover.

But not only the Algarve is worth discovering. In the Alentejo you will find some great places and beaches, still untouched by tourism and some real insider tips. In less than a hour’s drive you could spend days discovering everything.
